Multi-Wavelength Observations of Solar Flares
My research looks at the radiative-hydrodynamics of the Sun’s atmosphere during a solar flare. A solar flare is an energetic event, caused by magnetic reconnection, which results in the Sun’s atmosphere rapidly heating by millions of degrees and expanding. During the solar flare large amounts of Electromagnetic radiation are emitted from the physical processes happening during the flare. Through the use of solar flare models the fundamental physics behind these energetic events can be understood and probed!
In my research, I use F-CHROMA models in RADYN to investigate the dominant heating and energy transport mechanisms in the solar chromosphere and at what depth the energy deposition takes place. This will be done using the Lyman alpha line as a diagnostic tool for the solar chromosphere by probing how the line is affected during a solar flare.
