Practical training, which takes place in well-equipped and modern teaching laboratories, as well as in the research laboratories, is considered crucial to the development of analytical, practical and transferable skills.  Some lab-based projects are specifically designed to suit the needs and preferences of specific programmes and students.

Any technical problems which students might have in the laboratories (with equipment, data processing, etc.) can usually be quickly resolved by the experiment supervisor or laboratory academic co-ordinator or by the laboratory technician, and such problems should be first reported to one or other of these people.
