School of Mech. & Aero. Eng. Marks the Retirements of Prof. Cecil Armstrong & Dr Robert Kee
The School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering gathered in the Great Hall at Queens on the 10th of November 2017 to mark the retirement of both Prof. Cecil Armstrong and Dr. Robert Kee. The event started with a drinks reception where close family, staff and students past and present, gathered to thank Cecil and Robert for their significant contributions to the School and wish them luck for the future. The high number of attendees reflected the high regard with which they are both held. The current head of School, Prof. Brian Falzon, delivered speeches covering the careers of both Robert and Cecil which reflected not only their academic achievements but their dedication to education and engineering. Dr Juliana Early, Dr Martin Murtagh, Dr Chris Tierney and Prof. Mark Price also spoke on behalf of everyone who worked with, were taught by or conducted research with the retirees. This included reflections on the amount of red ink that Robert consumed in providing feedback to our undergraduate design students and Cecil’s influence on the School not least through the number of attendees whose successful academic careers he had directly influenced. Speeches were also delivered by Robert and Cecil reflecting on their time at Queens and their valued friendships with staff down the years. On behalf of everyone who worked with them at Queen’s we would like wish them all the very best for their retirement.
