Mechanical and Aerospace Student Helps Team to Construct Ferguson Aircraft Replica
In recognition of Harry Ferguson, the first person in Britain or Ireland to build and fly their own airplane, the BBC have put together a team of engineers, analysts, and craftspeople to build a technically accurate working replica of the aircraft. Working under the supervision of Lecturer Dr. Dani Soban, MEng Aerospace undergraduate Edward Tsang created a technically comprehensive and historically accurate model of the aircraft for the School’s full motion flight simulator. The results were used to assess the handling qualities of the aircraft, to help verify the airworthiness and safety of the vehicle, and to give the test pilot an opportunity to fly the aircraft in the simulated environment. The aircraft replica was just recently completed and the BBC documentary will be screened later in the summer.
