SMAE Achieves Silver Athena SWAN Award
The SWAN Team at the School of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering is proud to announce that we have achieved our third consecutive Silver Award. This recognises our significant record of activity and achievement in promoting gender equality and addressing related challenges within our organisation. The School was assessed against the Athena SWAN Charter which recognises work undertaken to address gender equality for everyone - not just barriers to progression that affect women. The award also recognises that the professional development and progress of staff (academic, professional or support & researchers) and students across career milestones is supported by embedding SWAN principles in our School’s policies, practices, action plans and culture.
Athena SWAN encourages and recognises commitment within higher education and research organisations to advance careers across all academic disciplines (including science, technology, engineering, maths, medicine, arts, humanities, social sciences, business and law).
‘This is an excellent outcome and not one to be taken for granted. We need to live and practice the principles which underpin this award and be incessant in our pursuit of gender equality in all its forms. A heartfelt thanks to the SWAN team led by Dr Dani Soban, for all of your hard work and commitment'
