THEME: THE IMPACT AND REACH OF RESEARCH

The School of Nursing and Midwifery at Queen’s University Belfast hosted a successful online Research and Scholarly Activity Showcase on 26 May 2021. This event highlighted the Impact and Reach of work across the Research, Scholarship, and Quality Improvement activities within both the school and Trusts.
We were delighted to welcome an address by Professor Charlotte McArdle, Chief Nursing Officer for NI and welcome our 2021 Keynote Speaker, Professor Amanda McCann.
All Lecturers, Research Fellows, PhD students, our partner charities, and our Health and Social Care colleagues were invited to submit abstracts of their work. The work aligned with the Showcase Theme: Impact and Reach, and the context of the work included our key themes of Chronic Illness and Palliative Care, Education and Practice, and Maternal and Child Health within a variety of Research, Scholarship, and Quality Improvement activities.

SHOWCASE SUPPORT
This is a wonderful opportunity to highlight the important research conducted in our School. What is really significant for me, is the impact and connectivity of what we do. Working in partnership with the public, service users, carers, clinical colleagues, and external stakeholders, our team tackle the most pressing challenges in society and healthcare today and find research informed solutions. We address knowledge gaps from perinatal to palliative care stages of life, and partner with people at their most vulnerable, supporting them to make more informed choices and live healthier lives. I am delighted to announce the 2021 School of Nursing and Midwifery Research Showcase to be held on 26 May 2021. This virtual event will bring together an audience of researchers, members of the public, policy makers and clinicians who are focused on transforming health care in relation to the School’s three research themes: Chronic Illness and Palliative Care; Education and Practice and Maternal and Child Health. The Postdoctoral Development Centre (PDC) is here to help Faculty postdocs enjoy their time at Queen’s, make the best out of their contract and move on to a fulfilling career. Career progression does not only benefit from engaging with the PDC’s resources and personal support but also from diverse experiences. Collaborations with partners outside of academia have the potential to strongly benefit the careers of researchers, notably by exposing them to new sectors and ways of working as well as providing them with valuable networks, skills and experiences that can be translated to many roles.
