Seminar Series 2024: Prof Carmen Alvarez-Lorenzo, University of Santiago de Compostela
We were delighted to host Prof Carmen Alvarez-Lorenzo from the University of Santiago de Compostela to deliver the latest seminar in our 2024 series today (16th May) in the Pharmacy Lecture Theatre.
The seminar was entitled "Bioinspired Drug Delivery Systems".
Prof Alvarez-Lorenzo is Professor of Pharmaceutical Technology at the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC) and Director of the USC Materials Institute (iMATUS). She was a postdoctoral fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT, USA) (1998-2001) and a "Ramón y Cajal" researcher at USC (2001-2006).
Her work sits at the interface between pharmaceutical technology, biology, materials science, and medicine. In particular, her research focusses on drug and gene nanocarriers, stimulus-sensitive hydrogels with molecular recognition capabilities, bioinspired drug delivery systems, scaffolds for regenerative medicine, and drug-medical device combination products.
She has been the PI of numerous regional, national and international projects. She is co-author of more than 380 articles, 40 book chapters, 20 patents, and more than 460 conference contributions and invited lectures, and co-editor of two books.
