ANNOUNCING CRASH WORKS CREATORS for CRASH WORKS 2023-2025
SARC PhD Candidate Lara Weaver has been selected as one of 5 music creators commissioned to write a new work for the Crash Ensemble, Ireland’s leading new music ensemble.
In partnership with New Music Dublin festival, 'Crash Works' is an initiative to commission and support the artistic and professional development of music creators, from any genre, at pivotal stages of their careers.
Over the next two years, Crash creators will partake in workshops, investigation, and experimentation with Crash Ensemble musicians and their team of creative minds to fully support the commission and presentation of each new work. Commissions will be premiered at New Music Dublin in 2025 and will be recorded and released on Crash Records.
The 5 music creators are Lara Weaver, Aoife King, Aleksandr Nisse, Cathal O’Riordan, and Tim Doyle.
“I am immensely excited to be working with the Crash Ensemble and creative team over the next two years, having the opportunity to deeply explore new kinds of sound and to push the boundaries of my practice. The concept for the Crash Works commission this year is to explore ideas of our relationship to the environment, sustainability and climate action — ideas which have strong connections to my current research in peatland and desert environments, interrogating the need for different situated sensings of the ‘Anthropocene’. It is my hope that projects such as this can bring research to new audiences in alternative, creative formats, finding new ways of making the climate emergency audible through practice." Lara Weaver
