Dr Paul Murphy and partners awarded £234,600 from National Lottery Heritage Fund (NI)
Dr Paul Murphy (AEL) & Michaela Clarke (DARO) working with Deirdre Wildy (Special Collections & Archives) were awarded £234,600 from the National Lottery Heritage Fund (NI) for ‘Friel Reimagined: Connecting Diverse Audiences with Heritage’.
A selection of the archives of playwright Brian Friel will be opened up via digitisation to connect diverse audiences with the legacy and writings of Brian Friel, Northern Ireland’s most acclaimed playwright. The team have also secured a further £14,612 from The Steele Charitable Trust towards the project.
Due to COVID-19 we have some challenges around scheduling the start of the project and will review scheduling of project workflows to address the requirements for physical distancing with outreach and engagement activities. The funding is a great opportunity to develop a resource to support outreach, teaching and research and will provide good opportunities for Drama students to engage with a wide range of community groups in NI.
