Professor Piers Hellawell’s new work Rapprochement gets its world premiere in the Ulster Hall
Professor Piers Hellawell’s new work Rapprochement (Concerto for Piano Into Orchestra) gets its world premiere from Clare Hammond (piano) and The Ulster Orchestra, conducted by Jamie Phillips, on Friday 24 March at 7.45pm in the Ulster Hall, Belfast
The concert is being recorded by BBC Radio 3 for network broadcast. Clare Hammond is a regular collaborator with Hellawell, having recorded his works on CD; she was during 2013 a resident artist in Music at Queen’s. This major new work, which extends Hellawell’s long-term series of experimental essays in the relationship of solo instrument and surrounding ensemble, is his largest to enter the public domain since the BBC Proms success of Wild Flow for orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall in 2016.
This concert also includes Copland’s popular Appalachian Spring and Vaughan-Williams’ Symphony no 5.
