Youth Dance Groups
High Points Youth Ballet was established in 2011 by Turkish ballerina Rana O'Brien to provide supplementary training for dancers in Northern Ireland who aspire to a professional career in ballet. In 2018, with the support of Arts Council Northern Ireland, HPYB became a year-round pre-professional training programme under the Artistic Direction of Jacob Allison.
HPYB's international team of Rana, Jacob, Anna Carapellotti, and Argyro Tsampazi offers Vaganova-based ballet and pointe classes and opportunities to perform classical repertoire such as The Nutcracker and Swan Lake. HPYB has recently expanded to also offer contemporary dance classes and intensive training for international ballet competitions. HPYB dancers hail from across Northern Ireland, from Armagh to Newtownards, and from Derry/Londonderry to Belfast.”
Established in 2019 Limerick Youth Dance Company (LYDC) is an ensemble of 15 members, aged between 10-25. Members enter both organically and through auditions. LYDC functions as a pre-professional dance company, sending 3 alumni on to dance training. To date it has created 3 live works and 3 dance films, performing in Limerick, Belfast, Laois, Dublin and Birmingham, and screened in Fresh Film, Noise Moves & Light Moves Festival.
LYDC has been funded by Dance Limerick, Arts Council Ireland and LCCC. The mission is to promote a standard of excellence in dance with and by young people of Ireland.
Urban Motion is a vibrant and inclusive multi-activity coaching company committed to serving the youth in communities across Northern Ireland. Our primary mission is to provide new and exciting opportunities for young individuals, with a particular focus on rural locations throughout the country. They offer a diverse range of activities, including hip hop, parkour, skateboarding, and more and aim to break down social barriers, foster inclusivity, and empower young people from all backgrounds, abilities, races, and religions.
DU Dance (NI) is a professional dance development company based in Belfast and working in communities locally and internationally. The company’s aim is to introduce young people to dance and related creative activities, and advocate dance as a tool for facilitating personal and social development.
DU Dance (NI) offers a range of small and large scale contemporary dance performance projects, across communities which may have limited or no dance provision and with people experiencing social exclusion, challenging traditional views of the relevance and value of dance. Projects include inter-generational, cross-community and inter-cultural work. The company operates an inclusive policy of participation, without audition or preconception of ability.
Irish National Youth Ballet is a semi-professional youth ballet company for dancers aged 10-20. INYB is an all island company that welcome's dancers from every county of Ireland as well as dancers from abroad who are living in Ireland for the year. INYB offers performance opportunities to those dancers who audition successfully for the company in the form of 2 performance seasons per year, collaborations with events such as Perform Ireland Festival, Irish Youth Dance Festival, the Lord Mayor's Mansion House Christmas Gala and with other youth dance companies such as Youth Ballet West and Dublin Youth Dance Company. With 3 levels in the main company, Juniors, Intermediates and Seniors, the company tailors the classes and rehearsals to suit the development of the dancers. INYB also holds a Boys Associate programme running in tandem with the main company that focuses on rebalancing the gender ratio in ballet.
Limericks LimeRockers Cru passionately advocates for Hip Hop culture, encompassing not only the dance style but also its fundamental principles of Love, Respect, and Community. Since its establishment in 2010, the Cru has seen multiple generations of students and has extended its influence beyond the city as a youth social outreach group. The founder Barry Burke aka Bazzy B has been teaching Hip Hop since 2004 and is also the founder of the Irish Street Dance and Olympic Breaking Syllabus which is a programme and new criteria to assist in the correct teaching of the foundations of Hip Hop styles, for which he has trained, battled, showcased, and facilitated workshops. Furthermore, in conjunction with the HSE he has developed a play and movement therapy for students with mental or physical disabilities, which he has been teaching in schools and hospitals since 2013. Barry has been appointed as syllabus creator and teacher trainer for Irelands Olympic breaking committee as its now officially a new event for Paris 2024.
