This Celebrity Recital offers a classic chamber programme of old and new for cello and piano, and marks a welcome return to Belfast for the Watkins brothers: Huw Watkins is a regular visitor to Music at Queen’s as pianist and composer, while Paul is cellist of the world-renowned Emerson Quartet, and a former Chief Guest Conductor of the Ulster Orchestra. As a duo the brothers visited the 2013 BMS Festival to premiere Piers Hellawell’s atria, a work that is included in tonight’s programme along with Blue Shadows Fall by Huw Watkins. The great Sonatas by Debussy and Brahms (no 2 in F, op.99) complete the programme, which offers a wonderful opportunity to hear one of the most striking artistic partnerships around.
