This seminar will trace the concept of wandering in 20th-century Jewish/German opera, looking at how the intertwined (and opposite) myths of the Wandering Jew and the German Wanderer in the 19th-century grew increasingly fraught between Wagner and the Holocaust.
Melissa Kagen is a Lecturer in Digital Media and Gaming at Bangor University. She holds a PhD in German Studies from Stanford University, where she wrote a dissertation on German/Jewish opera. She has published journal articles in Game Studies, The Opera Quarterly, and The German Quarterly.
