‘Love Across the Divide’

Dr. Alison Garden, a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow in the School of Arts English and Languages at Queen’s, has worked with BBC NI to put together a series of short programmes on four novels exploring the dangerous thrill of illicit love during the Northern Ireland Troubles. Produced as part of the BBC's '100 Novels that Shaped Our World' project and based on the research conducted for her book on ‘Love Across the Divide’ in Northern Ireland, Alison worked with Jason Martin of BBC NI to develop four programmes about four very different novels. 

Created using historic BBC NI archive footage, it gives a glimpse into our country's troubled past. From Joan Lingard's Across the Barricades (1972) to Professor Glenn Patterson's The International (199), uncover the works of fiction that spoke to the heart of readers from these shores and beyond. Produced as part of the BBC's project.
