Performance: Lawrence Zazzo - Handel Uncaged
Countertenor Lawrence Zazzo and harpsichordist Guillermo Brachetta perform a continuous and ‘defragmented’ programme of solo alto cantatas by George Frideric Handel, including Amore Uccellatore ('Cupid the Birdcatcher'). Its first-person narrator is a male bird being chased by Cupid and five female birdcatchers. All of this music can be found on Lawrence Zazzo's next solo CD, Handel Uncaged, released this year on Inventus Records.
Countertenor Lawrence Zazzo has appeared in many of the world’s finest opera houses and concert halls. His recordings include Byrdland (Landor Records), Lunarcy (EPR Classics), and A Royal Trio (Harmonia Mundi USA). Harpsichordist Guillermo Brachetta is co-founder of the acclaimed trio Fantasticus, and also of ‘Collegium Wilhelm Friedemann Bach'.
Lawrence Zazzo is Head of Performance and Lecturer in Music at Newcastle University. An internationally-recognised countertenor, Lawrence continues to perform in concert halls and opera houses throughout the world while researching Baroque opera, historical performance practice, and opera libretto authorship.
