The Miracles of Zoom Audio
We may gripe about Zoom fatigue or annoying echoes, yet many jobs, hobbies and social lives were able to continue in 2020 thanks to the likes of it. Under its hood, cunning audio processing makes it possible for us to hear each other reasonably well most of the time. Bringing some of these little miracles to light helps us understand sound more generally—similar processes explain the successes and shortcomings of similar technologies, such as hearing aids.
This talk will empower us to help Zoom help us, getting the most out of it whether we are talking to friends or having a piano lesson. [Other video-conferencing software and musical instruments are available and most of the same principles apply.]
