EEECS St Patricks Celebration
To celebrate St Patricks Day in style we invited all EEECS students to a Cèilidh/Cèili Dance.
We invited the McAuley Band to play in the Great Hall. The event began with a traditional meal of stew and wheaten bread, which tasted fabulous and the band played while we ate. The band itself consisted of a squeeze box, a fiddle and a keyboard. When the meal was over the caller introduced himself and asked for a couple of volunteers to help him show the steps for the dance. Then everyone was allowed a little practice session before the music and the dance actually started. And that was that. Everyone picked up the dances very quickly as the caller was a good instructor. Some of the dances included the Waves of Tory, The Siege of Ennis, The Walls of Limerick and even a Canadian Barn Dance which was different. The Great Hall was perfect for the event because of the wooden floor.
Photographs and videos were taken by our EEECS Students Tanish Baidya and Fannya Ratana Sandjaja. The organising team also included Margaret Roe assisted by Collette McCreesh (who contributed to this article) and Marie Bowler. Thank you so much!
