Why EEECS?
Outside of London, Northern Ireland is home to more software companies than any other part of the UK.
This means proactive engagement with industry, excellent placement opportunities and employment prospects.
Study Computer Science and Software Engineering in the brand new Computer Science Building, officially opened in March 2017.
The building provides state-of-the-art facilities for the School, making it a true global hub for Computer Science.
We're exploring new horizons with our innovative courses
Our new Degree Apprenticeships in partnership with PwC allow students to pair study with real-world projects, and covers all their fees!
To facilitiate placements and graduate employment, the School has links with over 500 companies.
These span the island of Ireland, the UK, and abroad and include Microsoft, NIE, Liberty IT, AllState, BT, Schrader, NYSE, Secure Broadcast, Kainos, First Derivatives and Citi.
We have a wide range of incredible projects for staff and students to get involved with
Electric Delorean conversion, Q-LAB Makerspace, Farmbot Robotic Farm, Internet of Things Laboratory, Lego Smart City, QUB Rocketry Project, and the NASA JPL Open Source Mars Rover to name but a few!
We operate a Peer-Mentoring Scheme wherein our level 2 and above students mentor our level 1 students.
This helps to involve students with their studies, organise social activities and stay on track all of the time. Each student is also assigned an academic member of staff to act as their personal tutor.
A wide range of engineering and IT companies support students through their studies in the School by offering scholarships, some of which are worth over £25K.
Queen's is also one of the only UK universities in the Power Academy Scholarship Scheme, which offers electrical and electronic engineering students the opportunity to be sponsored by companies such as Rolls Royce, NIE, Mitsubishi and Siemens.
EEECS operates a number of outreach and enrichment programs for staff and students
These include working with Primary and Secondary level young people to teach and promote programming and electronics. Hands on experience, CV building and rewarding projects, all while you study.
