Robert J. Savage is Professor of History at Boston College. He teaches courses in Modern Irish, British and Atlantic World History and courses in media, film and propaganda. He has been a Visiting Fellow at the Long Room Hub Arts and Humanities Research Institute, Trinity College Dublin; a Visiting Research Professor in the School of History, Anthropology, Philosophy and Politics at Queens University, Belfast; a Leverhulme Visiting Professor at the University of Edinburgh and a Visiting Professor at the National University of Ireland Galway.

His many publications in modern Irish history include Irish Television: The Political and Social Origins (Cork UP, 1996), A Loss of Innocence? Television and Irish Society, 1960-1972 (Manchester UP, 2010), Sean Lemass: a biography, (UCD Press, 2014) and The BBC’s Irish Troubles, television, conflict and Northern Ireland (Manchester UP, 2015). His new monograph, published in March 2022 by Oxford UP, is Northern Ireland, the BBC and Censorship in Thatcher’s Britain, 1979-1992.
