Dr Gail McConnell, QUB, ‘”A grammar in which everything is significant” (Ciaran Carson): Poems and reflections from The Sun is Open’
The Sun is Open sifts through a boxed archive of public and private materials related to the life and death of Gail McConnell's father, who was murdered by the IRA outside their Belfast home in 1984. Moving between child and adult voices, past and present, this book length poem attempts to decode the fragments left behind and, with them, piece together a history and a life. In this seminar, Gail will discuss and read from the book.
Dr Gail McConnell is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Arts, English and Languages at Queen's University Belfast. The Sun is Open, published by Penned in the Margins in 2021, is her most recent work of poetry.
This event will be held both in person in the Irish Studies Seminar Room (27 University Square, 01/003) and online via MS Teams.
Please indicate when you register via Eventbrite whether you want to attend in person or online.
