Congratulations to HAPP colleague Dr Amanda Slevin, awarded the AHSS ‘Citizenship and Outreach’ award for ‘her work on multi-level climate action and sustainability within and beyond Queen’s University Belfast.’
Examples include her role as Director of the Centre for Sustainability, Equality and Climate Action, which she co-founded with Prof. John Barry in 2019, and has grown to around 90 members, spanning academics, professional services staff and third sector workers. Hand in hand with SECA activities, Amanda works as a Research Fellow with the GroundsWell Consortium in which she plays a central role in embedding climate action across the interdisciplinary, multi-stakeholder and multi-institutional project. Reflecting her background in community development, adult and community education, Amanda also makes unique contributions to socio-ecological transitions to a sustainable future in other ways. These include her leadership and collaborative efforts within the multi-partner movement behind NI’s first Climate Change Act, organising and facilitating public events on climate action and sustainability, and providing expert knowledge within a diverse range of high-level policy, scientific, and community oriented activities.
The Postdoc Awards aim to recognise the exceptional contributions of postdocs to the University. In particular, they aim to reward those who excel in what they do, who “go the extra-mile” in their research, in their contribution to the life of the University, in their contribution to Public Engagement and in the provision of support for their group, colleagues, School etc. https://www.qub.ac.uk/sites/pdc/Recognition/PostdocAwards/
