Philosophy
Welcome to Philosophy at Queen's, the focal point of philosophy research and teaching in Northern Ireland. We are a tight-knit group of world class philosophers whose research ranked 9th among all UK philosophy departments for research intensity in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework.
We offer a broad range of undergraduate programmes, both single and joint, and pride ourselves on both the quality of our teaching and the innovative approach we bring to our subject. In addition to studying core areas of philosophy our students have the opportunity to explore its wider applications, such as on our distinctive philosophy for children module.
All our staff are available to supervise PhDs, providing expert supervision on topics ranging from ancient scepticism to hate speech. Our research students are fully integrated into the dynamic research culture of the School, including opportunities to collaborate with researchers in other disciplines where that is appropriate.
"Welcome to Philosophy at Queen's. Our degree programmes allow you to explore foundational questions about the nature of our world and our place in it. Drawing on both historical and living philosophers, our students investigate both abstract and applied problems in a broad range of philosophical disciplines, from metaphysics and epistemology to ethics and political philosophy. Our teaching team are passionate about enabling students to DO philosophy, not just read about it. " Dr Roger Clarke

Studying Philosophy at Queen's is more than a rewarding experience. It has been one characterized by sincere curiosity, fostered not only by deeply interesting topics, but also through engaging with and researching contemporary debate. Lecturers are kind and approachable, and from their passion for the subject, comes a genuine interest in supporting and encouraging students to achieve their best and explore their own interests further. Each class develops a unique comradery among students which I will look back on fondly. Lauren Campbell
