Dr Hicks’ research interests are in the field of pharmacoepidemiology and cancer epidemiology.

As a pharmacoepidemiologist Dr Hicks' interests are in studying the use, benefits and risks of drugs and medical products in the real world. As such her research utilises mainly large electronic healthcare databases (real world data) and innovative and robust statistical methods.

Her main research area to date has been in cancer pharmacoepidemiology to (1) identify commonly used medications that influence the risk of cancer and cancer outcomes and (2) evaluate the effectiveness and safety of cancer treatments.

She is open to other pharmacoepidemiology projects in other disease areas.
