The School of Medicine, Dentistry & Biomedical Sciences and the Thomas J. Moran Graduate School, in collaboration with the Eastern Federation Support Unit, are delighted to offer a personal and professional development programme tailored for General Practitioners in Primary Care. This programme is designed for GPs who aspire to take on greater leadership roles within their practice. Participants will gain valuable insights into the personal, interpersonal, and professional skills necessary to effectively manage and lead a practice. Additionally, the programme will guide GPs in creating a Personal Development Plan to further enhance these competencies.
The programme is also accredited by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) and successful participants will achieve a Chartered Management Institute (CMI) Level 7 Award in Strategic Management and Leadership Practice alongside obtaining 20 University CAT points.

Course Content
This short course is designed for those who want to:
- Accelerate career progression with valuable skills and knowledge;
- Enhance personal leadership styles and self-awareness;
- Connect with peers and mentors, fostering a supportive community.
Online Learning Resources: Each unit is supported with online learning resources, practical guides, and reflective exercises, to enable participants to build on their learning and apply it within their own context and complete the assessment.

The module assessment consists of a 3-part written report which includes reflective accounts and a Personal/Professional Development Plan.
In addition to obtaining a CMI Level 7 Award and 20 University CAT points, this short course can be taken on a stand-alone basis or combined to obtain a 60 CAT, QUB Certificate in Professional Development for Primary Health Care.

Delivery
This year-long short course features 11 half-day workshops, held in-person at either the Graduate School or the GP Federation Office.
Each participant will also receive one to one online coaching and in addition we recommend that each participant is assigned a mentor from within the sector.

Selection Criteria
To be eligible for this programme, applicants must be a current GP Partner / Salaried
- GP and with (or about to take on) management responsibilities in the practice.
- Qualification certificates will be required.
- The Department for the Economy Skill Up Fund is open to applicants resident in Northern Ireland only. It is not open to applicants from outside Northern Ireland.
To be eligible for a fully funded place under this programme you must:
- over 18 years of age;
- eligible to work in Northern Ireland;
- settled in Northern Ireland, and has been ordinarily resident in the UK for at least three years;
- or is a person who has indefinite leave to enter or remain in the UK
- Must meet the existing entry requirements for the course.
Applicants should indicate on the application form if they want to be considered for DfE funding.
Due to high demand you are advised to apply as early as possible. We may be able to consider self-funded or employer funded applicants on a case by case basis, as capacity on the individual PGCert programmes allow. Please indicate in your application if you wish to be considered as a self-funded or employer funded applicant.

Applicants should note:
- It is essential that applicants complete the form fully leaving no sections blank, particularly within the sections requesting information about qualifications and employment history.
- All relevant qualifications including Undergraduate Degrees, Masters, and/ or any others which may be at an equivalent level. Please ensure that copies/photos of these are uploaded to the Direct Application Portal (DAP) as proof.
You also need to include specific text and information in the Additional Information box
- This should include the title of the short course (module) you are applying for: Stepping Up to Leadership & Management in General Practice.
- The reasons for wanting to undertake the course and how your work experience fits within the criteria of the course.
