The Strategic Management and Leadership short course offers skills enhancement and formal accreditation of leadership and management skills to Primary Care practitioners at postgraduate level.
Fully - funded places are available for January 2024 entry via the Department for the Economy Skill Up Fund.

Queen’s University Belfast are pleased to have developed in collaboration with Connected Community Care and the Graduate School at Queen’s University, short courses that can be taken as stand-alone modules or combined (60 CATS) to obtain a Certificate in Professional Development for Primary Health Care.
What modules are offered?
- Strategic Management & Leadership in Primary Care (40 CATS)
- Social Model for Health & Wellbeing in Primary & Community Care (20 CATS)
Strategic Management & Leadership in Primary Care
This short course consists of two units; Strategic Leadership and Strategic Management Project and is accredited through the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) for a Level 7 Certificate.

To be eligible for this programme, applicants must work in a primary care setting and have a primary degree or equivalent (read Selection Criteria for full requirements).

Course Content
This short course is designed for those who want to:
- Build on their strategic management and leadership skills;
- Focus on translating and implementing organisational strategy into effective operational performance;
- Access cutting edge project management and leadership thinking and knowledge;
- Learn coaching skills and techniques as part of their leadership toolkit;
- Learn about the social model of health and its role in community based services such as social prescribing'
Each unit is supported with online learning resources, practical guides, and reflective exercises, to enable participants to build on their learning and apply it within their own context and complete the assessment.

Outcomes
- The course is assessed through two assessment reports, one for each unit. Formative assessment activities also take place including the requirement to plan, lead, and implement a Strategic Project connected to the learner's professional role.
- In addition to obtaining a CMI Level 7 Certificate via the Strategic Management and Leadership course, all short courses can be taken on a stand-alone basis or combined to obtain a 60 CAT, QUB Certificate in Professional Development for Primary Health Care.

Delivery
Each unit consists of 5-6 workshops delivered by experienced trainers via Microsoft Teams. There may be some face-to-face learning which will be reviewed later in the year.

- Day 3 - 5th March 2024
- Day 4 - 19th March 2024
- Day 5 - 26th March 2024
Strategic Management Project Unit
- Day 1 - 16th April 2024
- Day 2 - 30th April 2024
- Day 3 - 14th May 2024
- Day 4 - 28th May 2024
- Day 5 - 11th June 2024
This course will run subject to a minimum of 10 students successfully applying.

Selection Criteria
- To be eligible for this programme, applicants must work in a primary care setting and have a primary degree or equivalent.
- The minimum academic requirement is a Second-Class Honours degree from a UK or Republic of Ireland (ROI) Higher Education Provider or an equivalent qualification acceptable to the University.
- Recognition of prior experiential learning (RPEL) is permitted.
It is open to applicants resident in Northern Ireland only. It is not open to applicants from outside Northern Ireland.In order to apply, the candidate must be:
- over 18 years of age;
- eligible to work in Northern Ireland;
- settled in Northern Ireland, and has been ordinarily resident in the UK for at least three years;
- or is a person who has indefinite leave to enter or remain in the UK.

- You also need to include specific text in the Additional Information box, this should include the title of the short course (module) you are undertaking Strategic Management & Leadership in Primary Care/ Social Model for Health & Wellbeing in Primary & Community Care and explain your interest in undertaking it.
