Privacy NoticePractical Class Demonstrators
We encourage suitably qualified people, including PhD students, to apply to join our team of part-time practical class demonstrators. Such demonstrators may assist with teaching in laboratory classes to undergraduate students in medicine, dentistry, biomedical science and others. Those with more experience may be offered opportunities to contribute to practical lab book marking, tutorials or even invigilation in practical examinations.
There is a short application process including a brief interview, after which the successful candidates are engaged under a Contract for Services for one year (renewable annually). The rate of pay is at the University standard. Persons who have a post-doctoral position are welcome to contribute but cannot be paid additionally to their salary, as they are already under contract to the University.
New demonstrators are required to go on a short training course. If you are a PhD student you must discuss with your supervisor the extent of your commitment.
Demonstrating provides an opportunity to experience first-hand the teaching aspect of being an academic. It will be an essential part of the CV of anyone who wishes to make Higher Education their career.

Clinical Demonstrators
The Centre for Biomedical Sciences Education encourages the application of clinically-trained people to act as clinical demonstrators on a sessional basis to support the teaching of gross anatomy to undergraduate medical and dental students within the Centre’s dissecting room facilities. These remunerated positions offer an opportunity for clinicians from any specialty currently working or retired to help students understand the clinical relevance of their learning of anatomy.
