"Socioeconomic Conditions and Violent Extremism in the U.S.”
Abstract
The recent surge in hate crimes and, more generally, politically motivated violence in the U.S. appears to be a symptom of the recent increase in political polarization, the diminution of prospects of the middle class, and the related increase in income inequality. In this paper we study how several socioeconomic variables relate to hate crimes in the U.S., using data for counties over 15 years.
