Dr Alan Fernihough Wins Barrington Medal for 2024
Dr Alan Fernihough, Senior Lecturer in Economics at Queen's Business School, has been awarded the Barrington Medal 2024 by the Statistical and Social Inquiry Society of Ireland.
The Barrington Medal is awarded annually by the Council of the Statistical and Social Inquiry Society of Ireland under the auspices of the Barrington Trust (founded in 1836 by the bequest of John Barrington).
The award is intended to recognise a promising new researcher in the economic and social sciences in Ireland.
Alan was chosen as this year's winner based on the paper: 'Economic Geography and the Irish Border: A Market Access Approach', which was read before the society on 25 January 2024. The paper explores the economic implications of partition and its implications for regional development on the island of Ireland.
On winning the prize, Dr Alan Fernihough says:
'I am deeply honoured to receive the Barrington Award and grateful for the recognition of my research by the SSISI Council. This accolade is not just a personal achievement, but a testament to the invaluable mentorship, collaboration, and support I've received from my PhD supervisors, co-authors, and colleagues at Queen's Business School. Their guidance and insights have been instrumental in shaping my work and this achievement.'
Congratulations to Alan from colleagues at Queen's Business School.
