The Research Day was designed to connect academic researchers across Queen’s Business School as an informative networking event, chaired by Director of Research, Dr Joanne Murphy.

Attendees included new and established research colleagues, recognising the significant expansion of academic research staff over the past few years. Current PhD students were invited to give presentations and take questions on their research and connect with their academic peers.

Colleagues from Research and Development, Impact and Engagement, and Communications and Media were also in attendance to provide guidance for researchers on topics such as accessing funding opportunities and communicating with non-specialist audiences.

The day concluded with a prizegiving ceremony, announced by Professor Janice Carruthers, Dean of Research for the Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences Faculty.

Winners

• Most innovative research publication: Professor John Turner and Dr William Quinn for ‘Boom and Bust: A Global History of Financial Bubbles’.
• Best pedagogical initiative: Dr Alan Hanna, Dr Barry Quinn and Aine Gallagher for their significant amount of work on the Student Managed Fund.
• Sustainable Development Goals Research Prize: Dr Heike Schroder and Dr Denise Currie for their work addressing the mental and physical health of health care workers during the pandemic (SDG 3).
• Research funding innovation prize: Dr Josue Ortega for his innovative research on school choice and matching markets.
• Engagement and impact prize: Professor Mark Palmer for his work on green energy and the geothermal sector.
• Academic citizenship: Dr Laura Steele for her work in championing the research and scholarship of colleagues in QMS.
• PhD poster prize: Sweta Pramanick (pictured), PhD student focused on understanding productivity.
