Queen’s Business School PhD Scholarships
Queen’s Business School will be running a PhD studentship competition to recruit and select postgraduate students of the very highest calibre to study within and across academic departments.
We invite interested parties to submit applications in any of the following departmental areas:
- Accounting
- Economics
- Finance
- International Business, Entrepreneurship, and Marketing
- Information Technology, Analytics, and Operations
- Organisational Behaviour and workplace psychology
- Management and leadership studies
- Human resource management
Available Awards
The studentships will provide successful candidates with 4 years of funding. (covering tuition fees and a living stipend).
Successful candidates will provide six hours of teaching, administration, or research assistance per week in each semester as part of their stipend. The appropriate Head of Department will allocate this assistance.

Eligibility for Funding
- Studentships are available to both home and international students.
- Candidates who hold a doctoral degree, hold an award from or are financially supported by another organisation, or who have undertaken more than one-year full-time PhD study (or part-time equivalent) will not be eligible for an award.
- Candidates must have secured the commitment by a supervisor(s) in Queen's Business School to supervise their project ahead of submission. Candidates are strongly encouraged to discuss their ideas and proposal with their potential supervisor(s). Their proposal, however, should remain their own.
Candidates will need to meet the following entry requirements for the programme:
- Normally a UK 2.1 Honours degree (or equivalent qualification acceptable to the University) and a UK Master’s degree in a relevant discipline with a final result of at least 60% (or equivalent qualification acceptable to the University).
- In cases where students have not completed a Master’s degree, applications may be considered where students hold a first-class UG degree from a high-ranking, research-focused university and have demonstrated an ability to conduct academic research.
- For the purposes of the scholarship, students must have secured the commitment by a supervisor(s) in Queen's Business School to supervise their project ahead of submission.
Application Process
Candidates wishing to apply for the studentship must complete Queen's online postgraduate application form and submit all other supporting documentation by 3 May 2024. Please enter the text QBSPGR2024/25 into the funding field.
The research proposal to be included as part of the application should not be longer than 2,000 words.
If a proposal exceeds this maximum length of 2,000 words, it will not be considered.
Candidates must provide/ attach the following paperwork as part of their online application:
- Current CV (max. 2 pages)
- Reference support
- Full transcripts of their previous qualifications obtained to date
- Personal statement elaborating on aspects of the candidate's background and suitability for the proposed studentship, beyond what is evident on the CV.
