Dr Robin Adams of Queen’s Management School’s Centre for Economic History has won the Economic History Society’s annual Thirsk Feinstein prize for best doctoral dissertation in Economic or Social History. Dr Adams’s dissertation ('Shadow of a Taxman: how, and by whom, was the Republican Government financed in the Irish War of Independence (1919-1921)?') was completed at the University of Oxford in 2019. It investigated the funding of the republican government in the Irish War of Independence, providing the first ever demographic analysis of financial supporters of Irish independence on the eve of its realisation.
