Undergraduate: Aimee Sales joins the team at Mallusk Enterprise Park on placement.
Meet Aimee Sales, a BSc Business Management student, who is currently on her 2024/2025 placement year as a Trainee Marketing Assistant at Mallusk Enterprise Park.

Why did you choose this placement?
I chose to do my placement year at Mallusk Enterprise Park because I really connect with what they stand for. As a social enterprise and registered charity, they play a big role in supporting local businesses and encouraging entrepreneurship. I've always been passionate about business, so being part of a company that helps people start and grow their own businesses is inspiring. It’s amazing to be in an environment where I can learn, contribute, and see the real impact they make in the community.
What have been your highlights of placement year so far?
I started my placement year in September 2024, and since then, I’ve had several standout moments.
One of my biggest highlights was organising Mallusk’s biggest event of the year, the Winter Wonderland Christmas Market. This event was incredibly rewarding as we raised £1,702 for the NI Children’s Hospice. I co-ordinated 20 local businesses to trade at the market, arranged a free Santa’s Grotto for 100 children, booked a DJ for the night, organised free goody bags for the first 100 families, and secured amazing raffle prizes, including an overnight stay at The Merchant. Seeing the community come together for such a special cause was truly inspiring. A proud moment was winning the Mayor’s Award for Christmas Spirit for this event, which led to an invitation to Antrim Gardens, where we were personally presented with the award by the mayor.
Another major highlight was planning a Macmillan Coffee Morning, where we successfully raised £348 for a fantastic cause. This was my first ever marketing campaign, and it gave me invaluable hands-on experience in event planning, promotion, and community engagement.
Another highlight was working directly with a client who was starting a new business. I had the opportunity to design business cards and a logo, helping to bring her vision to life. This experience allowed me to build a strong working relationship and see first-hand how branding can make a real impact on a start-up's journey.
Overall, my placement year so far has been filled with incredible learning experiences, meaningful projects, and opportunities to make a difference in the community.
What are you most looking forward to for the rest of the year?
For the rest of the year, I’m eager to keep learning and growing alongside the amazing team at Mallusk Enterprise Park. I look forward to building on the skills I’ve developed, taking on new challenges, and contributing even more to the organisation and the local community.
What does a typical day in your role entail?
In my role as a trainee marketing assistant no two days are ever the same which is something I absolutely love. This variety has given me invaluable experience across different areas, including event planning, creating and managing newsletter campaigns, handling social media for two businesses, performing administrative tasks, and attending networking events. Each day brings new challenges and opportunities, allowing me to continuously learn and grow.
What do you hope to achieve by the end of placement year?
My placement year so far has been a valuable opportunity for developing both my interpersonal and professional skills. By the end of the year, I aim to build on the skills I’ve already gained, particularly in boosting my confidence and creativity. I also want to expand my network, as I believe strong connections are one of the greatest assets for future success. Ultimately, I hope to leave my placement with a solid foundation that will help propel me forward in my career. My placement year so far has solidified my passion to continue to work in the marketing and business advisory field.
Advice for future placement students?
My advice for future placement students is to dive in and embrace every opportunity and experience that comes your way. Throw yourself into new challenges, enjoy the journey, and make the most of each moment, as the months will fly by. Don’t hesitate to ask questions as this is how you will grow the most.
