Tell us about your placement?
For my year in placement, I joined Think People Consulting Ltd as part of the Client Service Team, managing eight clients and nine programmes. My role was to support the design of programmes for clients to fit with their culture, sector and prioritise.
I supported the delivery of management development and skills workshops across various sectors. I also created professional, client-focused business proposals and supported with the design work. I gained experience using and distributing DiSC Psychometric Profiles, which is a personal assessment and awareness tool used to improve work productivity, communication and teamwork.
Additionally, I managed the shortlisting process for internal and external recruitment, ensuring a professional experience for applicants.
Which areas of placement did you find most rewarding?
I thoroughly enjoyed being part of a team that created positive and impactful learning experiences that creatively engaged participants. I also enjoyed supporting the design process of programmes and tailoring them to align with the client’s culture, sector and priorities.
Please describe how undertaking the placement year has helped towards, or shaped, your future career?
Reflecting on my placement year, I am amazed by how much I was able to learn in such a short period of time. I am incredibly grateful to Think People for giving me the opportunities to grow, learn and progress.
My placement year provided me with the opportunity to use my academic knowledge in the workplace and offered a deeper understanding into the world of work. My time at Think People allowed me to get a feel for what I enjoy as well as adding invaluable work experiences to my CV which will make me a more appealing candidate to potential employers, after graduation.
What advice would you give to a future student starting their placement?
The value and knowledge I gained during my placement year was invaluable.
I collaborated on an article for Legal Island, emphasising how incorporating placement students into your business can lead to a mutually beneficial partnership that fosters growth, learning and innovation. I would highly recommend giving this article a read if you are an organisation considering taking on placement students or if you are an undergraduate student considering a placement year.
