Haicheng Jiang
PhD in Economics
“I decided to do my PhD in Economics at Queen’s University Belfast because of its global reputation in economic history combined with the practical knowledge its academics have working with industry, and through having access to a real Trading Room. I was also able to avail of funding through the China Scholarship Council which provides joint funding with Queen’s to cover tuition fees and some additional costs.
Since I started my PhD I’ve been able to collaborate with the School of Natural and Built Environment to gain an understanding of geographic information science. The Management School hosts seminars each week for PhD students which allows me to build relationships with students from across the School and learn from each other. This coupled with a lot of one-to-one time with my supervisors has helped me settle into life as a PhD student in Belfast.
I’ve made great friends already in the student accommodation provided which is only a short walking distance from the university. Five of us visited London over the Christmas holiday period – only a short one-hour flight from Belfast. I feel that Belfast is a great choice for study, but also provides a great base from which to travel to the UK and further afield.”
