Children's Rights, Participation & Education Symposium (#StudentVoice23)
The Centre for Children’s Rights at QUB is delighted to announce that we will be hosting an in-person symposium focussing on children’s rights, participation and education on the 6th of September 2023. The event is proposed to bring together academic and practitioner perspectives to learn from one another about the challenges and opportunities for children’s rights-based participation in education.
In education, as well as in all aspects of their lives, children have a right to express their views and for those views to be given due weight (UNCRC, Art.12). In recent years, there has been a growing interest in the field of education on how best to respect, protect and fulfil this right to participation in schools, and non-formal education venues. This event, therefore, invites contributions in the form of presentations or posters that explore both theoretical and practical examples of children’s rights, participation and education.
On these themes, we are excited to announce the following keynotes:
Morning Keynote:
What children tell us about the phenomenon of learning.
Prof. Roseanna Bourke and Prof. John O’Neill, Institute of Education, Massey University, New Zealand
Afternoon Keynote:
This much I know... 'Voice is not enough' revisited.
Prof. Laura Lundy, Centre for Children’s Rights, Queen’s University Belfast
