Collaboration with South African Universities
In June, the School of SSESW hosted thirteen academics and professional staff from two South African universities for their first visit to Belfast as part of a five year collaborative project between Queen’s University Belfast, Rhodes University and the University of Fort Hare. They are pictured with Emma Flynn (Queen’s Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research and Enterprise), Aisling O’Boyle (Director of Internationalisation in SSESW) and the Queen’s leads for the project, SSESW academics Dina Belluigi (Education) and Lorna Montgomery (Social Work). For fourteen days, discussions about socio-educational issues, research approaches and the relation of academic research to impacting change, were held between those in the disciplines of Education and Social Work. This included a colloquia series with 23 speakers, and an additional programme of targeted sharing about specific topics, concerns and opportunities for research and collaboration of mutual benefit.
