Erik Ropstad graduated as a veterinarian from the Norwegian School of Veterinary Science (Vet School) in 1980. He has held a professorship in Domestic Animal Reproduction at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) since 1990. During his career he has initiated teaching and research and within the fields of animal reproduction and endocrinology, laboratory animal science and environmental toxicology. He has been adviser for 14 completed PhD exams and supervised several post-doctoral fellows and MSc students. He is currently supervising one post-doctoral fellow, 5 PhD students and one MSc student. During extended periods of time, he has taken on administrative duties such as Head of Department, Section leader, Deputy Dean of the Vet School and taken on external duties lined with research at the national as well as international level. An important research focus has been studies on how environmental pollutants affect biological functions. Ropstad has initiated a number of research projects including a national strategic research programme on endocrine disruption and environmental toxicology and been involved in several EU projects and COST actions.
