Policies and Procedures
All research involving animals must be ethically reviewed as detailed in the University’s Policy on the Ethical Approval of Research.
Good governance is central to the University's commitment to high standards of humane care for animals and the Regulations Governing Research Involving Animals underpin this. Stringent procedures are in place to meet this commitment and to ensure strict compliance with relevant laws and guidelines. These are detailed in our Policy on the Use of Animals in Research and Teaching.
Before any research covered by the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 (ASPA) can be undertaken the relevant licences must be in place
- A personal licence for each person carrying out procedures on animals.
- A project licence for the programme of work.
