The Role and Requirements

JOB PURPOSE

The purpose of the David Trimble Chair in Leadership and Organisational Transformation is to:

  • Provide academic leadership in research and education consistent with the University and School Strategic Priorities within Strategy 2030
  • Provide leadership and make a significant contribution to the enhancement and delivery of the executive education portfolio in the William J Clinton Leadership Institute
  • Make a significant contribution to achieving the School and University’s civic responsibilities

Major duties include:

MAJOR DUTIES

RESEARCH

  • Demonstrate research leadership to ensure the highest standards of ethics and integrity in research
  • Contribute significantly to the development and implementation of research strategies in the School that deliver significant benefit to the School’s and University’s national and global reputation
  • Maintain substantial outputs of the highest quality research which are published in leading research journals and disseminated at national/international conferences as appropriate to the discipline and, more specifically, in relation to leadership and organisational transformation
  • Attract and secure externally funded collaborative research activities with other institutions and bodies
  • Provide leadership to maximise the wider (non-academic) impact of research, including knowledge exchange with external organisations and bodies and/or wider public engagement activities
  • Lead and participate in national and international committees (e.g. REF Panels and Research Funding bodies)
  • Contribute to the enhancement of postgraduate research student environment. This will include helping to secure PGR students, and leadership and mentoring during the supervision process

TEACHING

  • Design and deliver an appropriate range of contemporary and inclusive teaching, learning and assessment strategies and techniques for UG, PGT and executive education programmes
  • Provide leadership and strategic insights to development and delivery of the executive education portfolio delivered through the William J. Clinton Leadership Institute
  • Lead and develop innovative approaches to enhancing the student learning environment, including use of appropriate learning technologies and techniques
  • Act as internal examiner for undergraduate and postgraduate students

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

EDUCATION

  • PhD in Management or closely related discipline

RESEARCH AND ASSOCIATED ACTIVITES

  • Be recognised as a thought leader in chosen area of specialism and maintain a research profile appropriate to the discipline
  • Develop and maintain a research strategy which attracts external recognition and national and international impact
  • Sustained publication record of international excellence in field of specialisation
  • Record of securing and leading peer reviewed funding for research programmes in the specialist area
  • Substantial experience of developing strong collaborative partnerships with civic and business organisations for research, education or practice

TEACHING

  • Experience of developing and delivering world-class teaching, learning and assessment strategies and techniques in Leadership and Management, more generally
  • Demonstrable ability to contribute to successful, sustained postgraduate student supervision as primary supervisor
  • Experience of developing and delivering innovative modules and courses and being able to positively influence curriculum development and enhancement

MANAGEMENT, ADMINISTRATION AND CONTRIBUTION TO THE COMMUNITY

  • Substantial experience of providing academic leadership and strategic management development at School or wider University level
  • Willingness and ability to contribute to the operational management of the School
  • Contribute to the development and performance of colleagues through coaching, mentoring and peer support

THE CANDIDATE

PERSONAL QUALITIES

  • Demonstrable ability to provide effective leadership and mentor colleagues and research students.
  • Understanding of resource management processes and skills to apply them effectively
  • Evidence of wider leadership qualities.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS 

  • Demonstrable ability to contribute to the School’s international and civic activities.

DESIRABLE QUALITIES

  • Preference may be given to candidates who are able to demonstrate evidence of research and education relating to leadership in digital transformation or data-driven transformation.
