Ten graduates have secured Grade 3 roles in various Faculties across the University through the Queen’s Administration Academy, run in collaboration with Belfast City Council.

The 10 successful participants were recognised among a wider cohort during a Belfast Employment Academies Celebration event at Belfast City Hall on Tuesday 8 October, hosted by Belfast Lord Mayor, Councillor Micky Murray.

Commenting on their success, President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Ian Greer said:

“Queen's is proud to have partnered with Belfast City Council on the first ever Administration Academy pilot. This initiative has helped remove barriers to employment, providing 10 participants, some with no previous administration experience, with employability support and the opportunity to secure an administrative role in the University upon completion of the Academy.”

“Having completed NVQ Level 2 qualifications in Business Administration we are pleased to welcome our new staff members into Grade 3 administration roles across various schools and departments in the University. The Academy aligns with Queen's Strategy 2030 and the pledges of the Belfast Promise, reinforcing our commitment to nurturing local talent and promoting diversity within the workforce. We look forward to continuing to work in partnership with Belfast City Council on future programmes.”

Announced in July 2023 as Queen's University Belfast Business Services Employment Academy, Queen's Administration Academy is the first pilot of its kind at Queen’s, and is offered in partnership with Belfast City Council's Professional Services Employment Academies, launched in 2022. These academies aim to support those who are unemployed, underemployed, or seeking a better or more secure job to find an alternative route into administrative employment by helping them achieve qualifications and experience sought by employers.

Queen's Administration Academy is free and offers participants one week’s employability support to help them prepare for interview, including help to complete their application form and a mock interview. In providing participants with the opportunity to secure administrative roles within the University, this initiative aligns with Queen’s Strategy 2030 and the pledges of the Belfast Promise. The Academy's successful first chapter reinforces Queen’s commitment to nurturing local talent and promoting diversity within the workforce.
