Senior appointment: Dean of the Graduate School

Queen's President and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sir Ian Greer, is pleased to announce the following senior appointment:


Dean of the Graduate School

Professor Colin McCoyProfessor Colin McCoy has been appointed as Dean of the Graduate School.

Currently Head of the School of Pharmacy, he was previously Dean of Internationalisation in the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Life Sciences at Queen’s.

As Professor of Biomaterials Chemistry, he has more than 25 years of research expertise in the development of systems to improve the performance of biomaterials, particularly medical devices. His expertise is in the development of infection-resistant biomaterials, the design of triggered drug delivery systems and the design of sensor technologies for drugs and biologically-relevant species. His research has attracted in excess of £5M of funding, and he is the author several patents in biomaterials and drug delivery.

In his current role, he has led the School to a position of =35th in the QS World University Rankings by Subject and has overseen the implementation of revised standards for the initial education and training of pharmacists, which will see pharmacists become independent prescribers at the point of registration. He has also been involved in the development and leadership of China Queen’s College (CQC) since its inception 10 years ago.

As Dean of the Graduate School, Colin will provide academic leadership for the Graduate School and give strategic direction and support for postgraduate matters across the University to support delivery of Strategy 2030’s postgraduate ambition, ensuring postgraduate students have a unique range of opportunities for development informed by the needs of Faculties and Schools.

Colin will take up post on 1 August 2024.
