The following resources provide further information about Open Access, as well as access to freely available, scholarly papers across multi-disciplines.  

AFBI Repository

The Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute Repository collects, preserves, and makes freely available research outputs and related documents created by AFBI researchers, including peer-reviewed articles and conference papers.

These pages provides advice on open access to researchers, including explanations of what Open Access is, definitions of key terms, and links to other key resources.

CORE

Core is the largest aggregator of open access research papers in the world.  It aggregates open access research outputs from repositories and journals worldwide and makes them available to the public.  

Unpaywall

Unpaywall is a browser extension that provides access to an open access database with over 20 million free scholarly articles.  

Directory of Open Access Journals

The Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) is a community-curated online directory that indexes and provides access to high quality, open access, peer-reviewed journals.  

OpenDOAR: Directory of Open Access Repositories

OpenDOAR is a quality-assured global directory of academic open access repositories.  It enables the identification, browsing and search for repositories, based on a range of features, such as location, software or type of material held.

Open Policy Finder

As of November 2024, Open Policy Finder (formerly Sherpa Services) combines Sherpa RoMeo, Juliet and FACT into one single platform.  This platform assists researchers by providing:

  • searchable publisher open access policies, self-archiving permissions and conditions of rights given to authors on a journal-by journal basis.
  • up-to-date information concerning funders' policies and their requirements on open access, publication and data archiving
  • tools to check open access compliance and whether journals comply with funder requirements for open access to research.
  • a Transitional agreement look-up tool detailing existing transitional agreements held by institutions and journals.
