Excavation of early modern settlement in Enniskillen town

This investigation took place in October 2021 and was a unique opportunity to investigate the early modern settlement in this area of the town of Enniskillen. The houses were cleared from this area in the 1960s with the community being moved to new housing estates on the edge of Enniskillen. Two trenches were excavated with a large artefact assemblage being recovered. These artefacts are a snapshot of life in this area during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries

Excavation of a rath in Lisdoo

Two trenches were excavated at the site of a substantial rath in Lisnaskea Co. Fermanagh during a three-week period in September 2022. The monument was subject to archaeological excavation in 1977 when Nick Brannon excavated a number of trenches in the interior and across the banks and ditches of the monument. The 2022 investigation sought to build upon the results of the 1970s excavation with the hope of recovering datable material from the ditches of the monument. Joined by local school groups and adult volunteers the outer ditch of the monument was exposed and sherds of Medieval Coarse ware recovered indicating activity between the 12th and 17th centuries AD.
