Contributes to work packages 3, 4, 5 and 7, by developing research and impact on communicable parasitic diseases, specifically zoonoses of wild and companion animals, in the context of urban green and blue spaces.

I am a veterinary surgeon turned parasitologist, whose research focuses on the effects of climate (and climate change) on the transmission of parasites of wildlife, companion animals and livestock. This involves experiments on how various parasite life stages respond to changes in ambient conditions, observations on how natural and managed conditions affect parasite occurrence in the real world, and predictive computer models to link the two. Models are developed also to explore scenarios of climate and management change, aiming to more effectively and sustainably manage parasites that cause disease.

Within Groundswell, this research has a firm focus on One Health, whereby the health and wellbeing of people, animals and the planet are inextricably linked. While this concept is increasingly recognized and evidenced, its application to the design and operation of green space in our towns and cities is in its infancy, something we hope to help progress.
