Frankie Logan

Frankie Logan is a PhD Researcher, exploring effective community co-design solutions for safe, inclusive and accessible UGBs.  She is undertaking the research with the Groundswell Consortium.

Preliminary research will investigate crime statistics of gender-based violence and sexual harassment in public spaces in Belfast, and correlate this with the fear of crime and avoidance of specific spaces.

In-depth analysis will examine socio-political perceptions of public space and investigate physical barriers when accessing UGB’s. This will be based on a meta-analysis of digital data collection on women's experiences in public spaces. It will build on and expand existing research by the Groundswell Consortium which currently demonstrates the underutilisation of public spaces by certain groups. The research will include ethnographic interviews and workshops with women.

Frankie graduated in 2019 with a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, and in 2023 with a Master’s degree in Architecture with Distinction, both from Queen’s University Belfast.

In collaboration with her PhD Supervisor Agustina Martire, Frankie is co-authoring a book chapter for the XYX Lab, Monash University. In the early stages of development, it is proposed that the book will be entitled 'Consenting Cities: Practices and Provocations'. As part of the Open Botanic festival in October 2022, Frankie co-designed a kiosk for Sandy Row to encourage pedestrianisation and foster neighbourhood connections.
