Contributes to work packages 3 and 4.
I am a lecturer in health geographer at the University of Edinburgh. My research focuses on “upstream” social and environmental determinants of health including poor air quality and housing conditions. I also have interests in the linkage and research use of secondary administrative data sources for health and epidemiological research including the UK censuses and NHS health records and have previously acted as Deputy Director and now Director of Impact & Engagement for the Longitudinal Study Studies Centre - Scotland. My work is highly interdisciplinary and includes collaborations with colleagues working in informatics, sociology, medical sciences and the natural sciences. Some of my ongoing projects include, among others, the environmental determinants of IVF fertility treatment, the population health effects of tobacco and alcohol retailing environments, impacts of air quality and housing conditions on child respiratory infections and the effect of greenspace and woodland interventions on mental health and child development.
