Dr Sarah Clement is an Associate Professor in Environmental Policy at Australia National University and a Visiting Senior Research Fellow at the University of Liverpool, where she was former faculty member and university lead for European Commission-funded project, Urban GreenUP. This Horizon 2020 project implements and tests the social, economic, and environmental impacts of nature-based solutions in 8 cities, including Liverpool. Dr Clement is an expert in environmental governance, with a particular interest in how policies and decision-making processes can more effectively achieve outcomes for society and the environment. Her research has two main streams. The first is governance in the Anthropocene, particularly with respect to biodiversity, climate change and natural hazards. She has written a book on these topics and is now leading an Australian Research Council project to improve decision-making with respect to wildfires, biodiversity conservation, and climate adaptation. The second is how the use of Nature-Based Solutions can support efforts to address socio-economic and ecological challenges, with a particular interest in biodiversity, climate adaptation, and health and well-being.
