The conference will be held in QUB’s beautiful Riddel Hall, a dedicated conference centre situated in the leafy Stranmillis area of the campus.  Registration fees include: 
  • Conference fees for 30th June - 3rd July (including access to all plenaries and oral and poster sessions)
  • All refreshment breaks
  • Three lunches (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday)
  • Two conference meals and drinks: fork buffet on Monday 1st July at conference venue, three course meal at the Titanic Hotel on Tuesday 2nd July
  • Attendance at welcome and evening receptions: opening reception on Sunday 30th June, reception at conference venue on Monday 1st July, reception at conference meal on Tuesday 2nd July

Delegates will be able to book their place (for a small additional fee) on one of the optional excursions taking place on the afternoon of Wednesday 3rd July, via the registration page.

The conference will open on Sunday 30th June with an optional reception. The first session (welcome, first plenary) will begin on the morning of Monday 1st July, at 9.15am.

 

Optional excursions

The conference will close at lunchtime on Wednesday 3rd July. Delegates will be provided with a packed lunch for their excursion/onward travels. Please join us, if you can, for one of the optional excursions available at the close of the conference.

Additional charges apply for some activities (at discounted rates); please book your place when you register for the conference. Please note that spaces are limited for some excursions, and places will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.  Excursions will depart at around 1.30pm on Wednesday 3rd July, returning at around 5-6pm. 

 

 

 

Best of Belfast walking tour. An award-winning social history (and geography!) tour that starts and ends at Belfast City Hall. The tour lasts 2.5 - 3 hours, covering 2 miles. £15 (delegates to make own way to City Hall).

Hillsborough Castle

 

 

Hillsborough Castle: NI's Royal Residence, situated in over 100 acres of ornamental lawns, peaceful woodlands and picturesque glens. Excursion includes guided house tour. £37.50, including coach transportation to the site and back to Belfast.

 

 

The Gobbins guided cliff walk experience. A wild cliff face walk over the waters of the North Channel. "Experience a thrilling world, where bridges will carry you over crashing waves to sunken caves and sheer cliff faces"! £40, including coach transportation to the site and back to Belfast. Note: supportive and grippy shoes are required. £5 additional charge to hire shoes if needed.

Titanic

 

 

Titanic Experience: A world-leading visitor attraction situated where the Titanic was designed, built and launched. The Experience tells the story of the ship's conception, construction, launch, maiden voyage, and subsequent place in history. This is a self-led excursion (delegates to make own way to Titanic Experience) and needs to be booked in advance by delegates. Please enter CONFDELS2024 into the Titanic Experience website's booking section of the website when purchasing tickets. Note that this discount is available to use before and after the conference too - it does not only apply to the excursion session on Wednesday 3rd July.

 

Population Geography Research Group of the Royal Geographical Society with IBG Writing Retreat: open to all delegates (membership of the research group not required). There is no formal agenda for the retreat: come along to meet new colleagues interested in population geography and do some writing in a supportive environment. Free to attend; please register by emailing icpg@qub.ac.uk no later than 20th May 2024.

 

 

Accommodation

Accommodation is not included in the registration fee; delegates should make their own arrangements for their stay. There are many excellent options for accommodation in the city centre and near the university campus, to suit a range of budgets.
