Why I Volunteer

Richard Fletcher, (Electrical And Electronic Engineering, 2012) recently met with some student and graduate entrepreneurs on the QUest programme to share his expertise as Head of Product at a tech start up.

Why did you decide to volunteer?

I've been on the lookout for a way to help others and portion some of my time towards giving. I really enjoy working with and supporting founders of startups to help turn their ideas into products, and when I saw the request for Alumni to help our students, this sounded like a great opportunity to meet new founders and help them along their startup journey.

What do you enjoy about it?

For me, it's about helping people and sharing the knowledge, and that's what I enjoy the most. It's a challenging landscape to navigate without the right technical and commercial knowledge and guidance, and I enjoy sharing my experiences that hopefully other founders can learn from.

What would you say to someone considering getting involved with entrepreneurship at Queen’s?

Do it! The group I met were a really nice bunch. It was really interesting to hear about the young founders' businesses and their ideas.  Not to mention the InQUBate staff have been great every step of the way in helping to organise the talk and assist with any support we needed.
