Overview

In the first of a series of new career exploration sessions, Dr Lawrence Eagling will provide his insight as a former postdoctoral researcher at Queen's University Belfast and discuss how he navigated a significant career transition out of academia after a love of research. This session will provide attendees with the opportunity to hear from a former postdoc on his career journey from academia, to following a personal passion and setting up his own business, Swimming Head Productions.

ALL WELCOME! This event is primarily targeted at postdocs and research staff, but is open to anyone who is interested in attending, including individuals of all career stages and roles affiliated to any university or without university affiliation.

In this event Dr Lawrence Eagling will be interviewed by Jill Wright, Research Careers and Employability Officer in the Postdoctoral Development Centre at Queen's University Belfast. Jill will ask some prepared questions but also relay questions shared by the audience in the event chat.

DR LAWRENCE EAGLING

Dr Lawrence Eagling completed his PhD in Fisheries Science at Queen’s University Belfast in 2015, followed by a couple of differing roles, firstly working as a Technician and then as a postdoctoral researcher. These roles were focused on linking scientific research with industry, including successfully raising seed funding for a QUB spinout company.

During COVID, Lawrence left QUB to start his own business, Swimming Head Productions which is now an award-winning documentary filmmaking company, specialising in science outreach, sharing conservation and natural history stories.
